Blackheath Squash Club
Rectory Field, Charlton Road • London • SE3 8SR
Hi energy is the biggest running cost for squash club and given the recent increases in energy costs the Committee are looking at ways of reducing our energy usage to help minimise any possible future increases in court hire fees to members.
The radiators in the balcony and changing rooms are programmable on a daily basis so we have set them to come on when these areas are typically being used rather than heating them for the many hours the club is empty. So the balcony will be heated for group events such as matches, group training sessions, junior coaching and ladies squash sessions. The changing rooms will be heated at lunchtimes and evenings and for most of the day on Saturdays and Sundays.
Our new electric water heater will heat our hot water once a day for two hours and the new insulated cylinder will keep the water hot for 24 hours.
Court heaters remain as they are. A reminder that they are turned on by pressing and releasing the switch by the court door. As these heaters are silent and there is no indicator light on the switch or heater its not possible to tell if they are on or off, so if in doubt press and release the switch. The heaters will run for 40 minutes or when the court gets to 20 degrees.
Members can help minimise our energy usage by:
- turning off the court lights when you finish your game
- turning off the shower light and fan in the mens changing room after use
- if you finish your game and the heater is still running you can turn it off by holding down the heater switch for 3 seconds.
Also you may wish to consider playing with a single dot ball when the its really cold. I generally find this gives a better game than a double dot in cold conditions.
We will continue to monitor the use of the club and will tweak the timing of heating if necessary. Please let me know any thoughts or suggestions you have and any feedback ie is it too hot or cold when you use the club.
Cheers
Kev
